Special Exhibitions

Complementary to the permanent exhibition the upper-Silesian Provincial Museums shows changing special exhibitions. Since more than 10 years those arise in cooperation and exchange with other museums in Silesia and are escorted by bilingual catalogues if possible. Their themes follow an overlapping, electing and emphasising concept:

 

1. Culture and History of Upper-Silesia

This formula subsumes special exhibitions, which pick up the topics from the permanent exhibition, supplement and deepen them .

2. East-West-Relations

By this catchword issues and people are concerned, which or who likewise are related to Upper-Silesia and North-Rhine Westfalia.

3. Comparitive History of Industry

This is about projects, which broach the issue of historical relations and comparison between the Industrial regions Upper-Silesia and the Ruhr-area.

4. Historical und current art in and from Upper-Silesia

5. Problems of today`s Upper-Silesia

In Upper-Silesia – like in the Ruhr-area – the downturn of coal and steel industry coerces restructuring, which comes along with big problems. Public and private initiatives from North-Rhine Westfalia give multiple help in sense of the old connection between booth industrial regions. Since September, 1st 2000 an agreement of cooperation between the state of North-Rhine Westfalia and the wojewodship Silesia officially frames it. The Upper-Silesian Provincial Museum escorts this exchange with correlative cultural activities.

6. Exhibitions about Local Regional Themes.

At least one exhibition per year is concerned with local regional themes, mostly in cooperation with local cultural accommodations. The Museum, beside its supra-regional duties, therewith bounds itself to its immediate enviroment.
